Great poet and entomologist J.H. Fabre wrote that a journey in your own garden can be as exciting as a journey in the Indian jungle, the encounter with a praying mantis as intense as the one with a tiger. Armed of notebook, pens and watercolours, students will tell through drawing and writing (the delicate tools of a carnet) their adventure of wonder and marvel, guided by an undiscussed master of this genre. This workshop is both for those who wish to try a relatively accessible technique, and for experienced devotees of this genre who wish to meet a master, ask for advice and exchange ideas and emotions with other participants.

Stefano Faravelli (1959) is a painter, philosopher and orientalist. Inspired by atlases, encyclopaedias, zoology and botanic manuals and by long trips to Africa and to the near, middle and far East, he has become Italy’s most known author of carnets de voyage. In his notebooks, the result of immediacy and reflection, we find – expressed by means of simple and delicate tools such as watercolour and calligraphy – talent, study and passion. He has received a special award at the Biennale du Carnet de Voyage in Clermont-Ferrand and he exhibited his works in several cities both in Italy and abroad (London, Paris, New York, Jerusalem, Istanbul…). In 2011 he was invited to exhibit at the Venice Biennale. As an author he has met growing success with audiences and critics alike: 5 travel carnets on Mali, China, India and Egitto (EDT), Japan (De Agostini) and 5 city notebooks on Tokyo, Jennè, Cairo, Istanbul and Delhi (Confluencias editorial).

Every travel begins with a step, but step by step…where will we go? If animation is the Cinderella of cinematographic techniques, well, stop-motion is the Cinderella of the animation techniques. Nonetheless it has recently found itself on the crest of a wave for the options that it offers in terms of freshness and creativity. Let’s Travel In Stop Motion! consists on a great little trip, step by step, frame by frame, for all the curious people who want to create a world, animate it, speed into it, or explore it slowly with a tool made of paper. A colourful workshop of paper and cardboard, with seas and stars and ships and planes to animate! For children and adults full of patience and creativity.
