Through a careful selection of archive materials and three engaging interviews, the documentary by Werner Herzog and André Signer offers a unique opportunity to meet with Mikhail Gorbachev. Now eighty-seven years old and tired from the illness, but lucid and determined, the former General Secretary of the USSR talks with Herzog; with great skill as an interviewer, the director manages to bring out a precious testimony on some of the most significant events of the late Twentieth century, with an eye to the future too.

Biographies

Werner Herzog wrote, produced and directed over fifty films, including Fitzcarraldo (1982) and the most recent End of the World Meetings (2007), The Bad Lieutenant – Last Called New Orleans (2009), Cave of Forgotten Dreams (2010), Into the Abyss (2011), Inside Hell, Lo and Behold – Internet: the future is today and Salt and Fire (2016).

André Singer was Chief Editor of the famous Disappearing World documentary series produced by Granada Television in the 1980s and he founded Fine Cut, the BBC documentary series, in 1990. He directed the documentary Night Will Fall (2014), winner of an Emmy Award, and has collaborated on fifteen films of Herzog as a producer and executive producer.
